“Kill one man, terrorize a thousand”–so goes the Chinese proverb. The focus of our government has been on international terrorists: Al Qaeda, Hamas and other splinter or less-famous groups. Al Qaeda perpetrated an attack on the United States that killed 3,000 plus men, women and children. We all know at least something about these groups, but what do we know about domestic terrorists?
When international terrorists strike, the government speaks of stronger intelligence and retaliation—which they should. The government never speaks of banning the weapons that they use i.e., airplanes, box cutters or pressure cookers. They never blame the weapons used by the terrorists for the acts of violence. The weapons used by international terrorists are never banned or regulated. The focus, rightly so, is on the people who have committed the acts of terror. Should not this be the same with domestic terrorists? I submit that the people who are planning and committing these recent public shootings are, in fact, domestic terrorists. The couple in Las Vegas that killed two Las Vegas police officers and an armed, hero citizen are certainly the poster children of domestic terrorists.
Why does the government not recognize these people as terrorists? One reason is that to admit that we have domestic terrorists is an admission that the government has failed us. It is much easier to blame mental illness and guns than to call it what it is—terrorism. The Federal Government has spent billions of dollars spying on us, yet they cannot seem to stop domestic terrorists. How is it possible that a bunch of domestic thugs can outsmart the feds? The correct answer is that the feds are so focused on international groups that they are missing the terrorists right underneath their noses.
To admit that we have domestic terrorists is to admit that domestic policy is a failure. When viewed in the light of domestic terrorism, it begins to make sense why the Federal Government is outfitting local and state LEO’s with surplus military gear. The government knows exactly what they are dealing with, but instead of calling it what it is, they use the misdirection play and blame guns and mental illness. Do we believe that a person willing to hijack a plane and crash it into a building is not mentally ill? Why is it that a shooter within the United States is a gun problem and not a terror problem? Why is the focus placed on the gun and not on the ideology?
Instead of blaming the terrorists, liberals blame guns. To fix the domestic terror problem, liberals pass more laws restricting gun rights. This plays right into the hands of the domestic groups because it enables them to act more freely when selecting targets since so many more gun-free zones are being created by these laws. Terrorists do not care about gun laws, or any laws, for that matter. Had box-cutters been illegal, it would not have stopped 9/11 from happening. They are terrorists, and they will not be stopped unless they are dead.
Terrorists never win. They only tend to make their target groups band together even tighter. This is another reason why the government does not call these shooters terrorists. They do not want Americans to forget about banning guns. If they called it terrorism, then they would be responsible, instead of gun owners. If they call them terrorists, then they lose the ability to push their gun-control agenda.
Domestic terrorism isn’t new. The Ku Klux Klan, the Black Panthers, and Timothy McVeigh immediately come to mind. These two shooters in Las Vegas have ties to white supremacist groups. Are street gangs not domestic terrorists as well? The Crips, Bloods, Latin Kings, MS-13, Brown Pride, etc. We have a real problem in this country, and it needs to be addressed. It appears that these domestic terrorists have chosen LEO’s as their latest targets. Ambushing LEOs has now become popular. In the last year, three LEO’s in Utah have been ambushed; two of these brave men died and one was critically injured. Now, two Las Vegas Metro officers have been ambushed while eating lunch. Whatever you think of LEO’s, you must be disturbed by this trend. These brave men and women are sworn to protect us. They are the buffer between us and the scum of the streets and I will say that the vast majority of the time, they do a great job. It is important that we begin to address this issue, and do it now. Gun laws will not stop it, and neither will more legislation regulating mental health issues. This issue, much like a weed, must be killed at the root. Folks, we have a domestic terror problem, and it is only going to get worse.
